Biography
Brian John McClair was born in Bellshill, Lanarkshire on 8 December 1963. Beginning his career with Aston Villa in 1980, McClair moved to Motherwell in 1981. Following two seasons with the Steelmen, Celtic signed McNeill where he won the Scottish Cup in 1985 and the League in 1986. In 1987 he won Scottish Football Writers’ Association Player of the Year and Scottish Players’ Player of the Year awards following a league campaign in which he scored 35 goals.
1987 saw McClair move to Manchester United, where he enjoyed a successful spell with four Premier League titles, two FA Cups, one League Cup, five Charity Shields as well as the European Cup Winners’ Cup and European Super Cup.
McClair made his international debut in 1986 in a 3-0 win over Luxembourg at Hampden. His first international goal came at EURO 92 in a 3-0 win over CIS.
