The youngsters face San Marino at St Mirren Park on 5 September before travelling to take on Croatia five days later.

Under-21s boss Gemmill has selected a number of familiar faces, including Allan Campbell and Ross McCrorie, who boast 15 and 12 caps at Under-21 level respectively.

There are also first time call-ups for five players, including Hamilton's Lewis Smith and Motherwell's James Scott. Conor McLennan, Stephen Kelly and Kieran Wright also find themselves in the squad for the first time.

Chelsea's Billy Gilmour and Hibernian's Glenn Middleton, on loan from Rangers, return to the fold after missing March's friendlies due to their involvement in the Under-19s European Championships. Ryan Porteous is also back after missing out through injury.

Head coach Scot Gemmill, who had the difficult decision of leaving a number of players at home, said: "This is the national team, it should be hard to get in the squad. It hasn't always been like that for the national youth teams."

He added: "At the same time there are a lot of younger ones involved as well. We have a big responsibility to try and share the opportunity."
