2024 UEFA Women's Under-17: Qualifying Round 2 North Macedonia 0 - 7 Scotland Tuesday, 19 March Miejski Wrzesnia, Wrzesnia
Scotland Women’s under-17s have secured ‘League A’ participation for the third consecutive time following a strong performance in this month’s UEFA Qualifying Round 2 tournament.
Pauline MacDonald’s side were drawn in Group A7, alongside Denmark, North Macedonia and hosts Poland who topped the group with the Young Scots finishing in second-place.
Scotland gained promotion to ‘League A’ last year, with back-to-back 4-0 victories over Israel and Georgia. That was followed by a solid display in first round qualifying last October, securing four points from a group that included France, Italy and Slovenia to qualify for Round 2.
This month’s tournament was opened with an impressive victory against higher-ranked opposition, Denmark. Laura Berry’s goal on the stroke of half-time proved to be enough to seal the win.
Next up was Poland and it was a competitive opening 45 minutes. Phoebe Murray knocked the ball home from close-range before the break, however, the hosts dominated the second-half and ran out 5-1 winners.
The curtain came down on this year’s qualifying campaign with a rampant 7-0 win over North Macedonia. Berry on the scoresheet again, this time with four goals. Olivia McStay, Lily Boyce and Mia McArthur also added to the young team’s tally.
Head coach, Pauline MacDonald: “I’m incredibly proud of the performance and application of the group across this campaign. They’ve shown great willingness to learn and apply our style at the top level of the game.
"Across both preparation and qualification we have competed well against ‘A’ Category opponents, securing wins against Sweden and Denmark, both significantly higher ranked nations.
"We also showed composure against teams with players in the upper age categories which bodes really well for the future of this group.”
