UEFA Under-21 Championship Qualifier Scotland v San Marino Thursday 5 September, kick-off 7.30pm St Mirren Park

Scotland Under-21s take on San Marino in the first group stage fixture of their UEFA Under-21 EURO Qualifiers.

It marks the first fixture for Scot Gemmill’s side since friendly clashes in March, and presents an opportunity for the youngsters to get their campaign off to a strong start.

For Head Coach Gemmill, the first two games in the group present two very different challenges for him and his players.

Pre-match thoughts

The manager is expecting difficult fixtures against both San Marino and Croatia.

With a number of young players in his squad for these coming games though, Gemmill believes there is more than just results to think about.

He said: “We had two preparation games in March, when we travelled to Spain as a group for fixtures against Mexico and Sweden.

“Those games allowed us to give our young players valuable international experience, however now we have the chance to give them competitive experience in a Scotland jersey.”

He added: “The objective every time is to help develop our best young players and the correct environment helps us to do that.”

The likes of Ryan Porteous, Billy Gilmour and Glenn Middleton return to the set-up, whilst there are five new faces in the squad.

Gemmill admits it was not an easy task picking his squad: “It is always a difficult job for an international manager when he selects his squad. We are lucky that we have a competitive group trying to earn their place in this squad and yet again I am excited to work with this generation of players.

“It is a new age group, players born on or after January 1, 1998. One of the things I hope to have shown in the past is that we are willing to give opportunities to the younger players in the group and we have some very exciting young players available to us.”

Tickets

Tickets are available at the gate and are priced at £5 for adults, £2 for kids and free for Scotland Supporters Club members. SSC Members should go to main stand turnstiles or west stand ticket office with a valid membership card to claim their free ticket. For fans wishing to sit in the west stand, tickets need to be purchased from the west stand ticket office.
