Sweden, ranked sixth in the world, are a strong force in women’s football and were close to toppling giants USA just a few days ago but lost out 1-0.

In Falkirk, Scotland won 2-0 with Lisa Evans scoring after three minutes before Jane Ross notched her 50th goal for her country, becoming only the second person to ever complete the feat joining Julie Fleeting.

The match at Myresjöhus Arena in Vjaxo will kick-off at 5pm (UK time) and is expected to be played in front of more than 3,000 supporters.

Team news

Defender Jenny Beattie picked up an ankle injury before the Romania match and is expected to be out for 4-5 weeks with Sophie Howard taking her place.

23-year-old Howard plays for TSG 1899 Hoffenheim and the German born defender is eligible for Scotland through her Scottish grandfather.

She made her Scotland debut against Belgium in April.

Rachel Corsie is fit and ready to play after not being involved in Friday’s win.

Previous meetings

Anna Signeul has faced her home country five times during her reign as Scotland head coach, in three friendlies and two World Cup Qualifiers.

The team have been unable to grind out a victory against them, as yet.

The last time they played each other, Sweden ran out 6-0 winners in January, 2016.

Their last visit to Scotland was a closer run thing though when Scotland lost out 3-1 at Fir Park in 2014.

Anna Signeul’s thoughts

“There were a lot of positives to come out of Friday’s 2-0 win over Romania. They are similarly ranked to our Euro 2017 opponents Portugal but we controlled the game really well and they never had any clear cut opportunities.

“I think we can do better though, especially in our build up play.

“It was great to have a lot of players back fit as we had a few out with niggling injuries against Belgium.

“It was disappointing for Jen Beattie to pick up an injury though.

“She is back down at Manchester City and we know they will take care of her in the best way.

“We haven’t been lucky with injuries but these things will make us stronger.

“Sweden will be a really tough challenge. They looked very good against USA in their recent game against them. They were strong in attack and astute in defence.

“We’ll have to be defensively strong and keep up with their fast play. If we can do that from the outset we’ll give ourselves a strong base to go and play ourselves.”
