Scotland Under-19s will be looking to take another step towards next year’s European Championship this month, as they travel to Wales to take part in the UEFA Qualifying Round.

Billy Stark’s men will take on San Marino and Swedene in addition to their hosts, with a place in the UEFA Elite Round up for grabs on the road to the finals in Armenia next summer.

Ten of the squad travelling south have come through the Scottish FA JD Performance School system, including Rangers striker Dapo Mebude and Hearts midfielder Harry Cochrane.

Stark is also able to call upon the services of Billy Gilmour, with the Chelsea starlet returning to the Under-19s after impressing in his appearances for Scot Gemmill’s Under-21 side in their recent UEFA Under-21 European Championship qualifying campaign.

Despite having reached the Elite Round in each of the past three years, Scotland will be hoping to reach the UEFA Under-19s European Championship for the first time since 2006.

On that occasion, the side – then coached by Archie Gemmill and Tommy Wilson – went on a superb run all the way to the final, with a team containing future Scotland internationals Steven Fletcher and Graham Dorrans only beaten by a Spain team boasting future World Cup winners Gerard Pique and Juan Mata.
