Nichola Greig took charge of her first match as women's under-16s head coach since her appointment in September and the Young Scots ran out 4-3 winners in a tough match at Oriam in Edinburgh on Tuesday.

Honours were even at half-time thanks to a goal from captain Amy Sharkey. It was a frenetic 2nd half watched from the sidelines by Scotland Women's National Team Head Coach, Pedro Martinez Losa.

Scotland mounted a fight back from 3-1 down with goals from Oluwadara Ositelu, May Cruft and Sophie Black securing the victory.

It was a very different team for the second game at the same venue two days later. Head coach, Greig made 9 changes to the starting line-up. Only goal-keeper Poppy Walker McInnes and defender Erin Husband retained their places. Goal-scorers Ositelu, Cruft and Black had their efforts rewarded with a place in the starting XI.

The match ended in a 3-1 defeat despite a valiant second-half performance and a goal from Kate Fraser. Ten players made their debuts across both games, Nichola Greig said it was an invaluable week for the group: “Despite not getting the result in the second match, it was a great week of learning for the whole squad.

“To show the mentality that we did to come back from 3-1 down in the first game was really pleasing and it showed some great character. We made a lot of changes in the second match to ensure as many players as possible got game time and we take plenty of positives into the next camp.”
