Scotland Head Coach Steve Clarke has named an extended squad as his side begin the countdown to the crucial FIFA World Cup Play-off Semi-final and the start of their UEFA Nations League campaign.

Should Scotland emerge victorious from a home Play-off Semi-final against Ukraine on 1 June, they would travel to Cardiff to face Wales on 5 June for a spot in this year's FIFA World Cup Finals in Qatar.

Following their Play-off exertions, the attention will then turn to the start of the UEFA Nations League campaign - with a home match against Armenia followed by away matches against Republic of Ireland and Armenia.

Clarke has opted to add depth in naming a 28-man squad to cope with the potential for five matches in a busy two week period.

With Scotland unbeaten in their last eight matches, Clarke has chosen a settled squad that is boosted by some key players recovering from injury.

John Souttar and Liam Cooper return in defence after both missing the friendlies against Poland and Austria in March, while Nathan Patterson is also a welcome inclusion, after missing the last few months of Everton's season with an ankle problem that required surgery.

Ryan Jack, who made his Scotland return in March after a period out, is included again among an array of midfield options - fresh from his outstanding goal in the Scottish Cup Final at the weekend.

Meanwhile Ross Stewart – who received his first call up earlier this year – also keeps his place in the squad, on the back off his heroics for Sunderland in the League One Play-Off Final on Saturday.
