Scotland Under-17 coach Scot Gemmill has named his 18-player squad for next month’s UEFA European Under-17 Championship finals in Bulgaria. Rangers goalkeeper Robby McCrorie and Celtic forward Calvin Miller, who starred at last year’s finals in Malta, have both been selected. Defender Ross McCrorie, the twin brother and club mate of Robby, has also been included in the pool. Aberdeen, Dundee United, Falkirk, Kilmarnock, Reading and Norwich City all have representation in the squad, who will take on France in their opening match of the 16-team tournament on 7th May. Gemmill’s side will also face Greece and Russia in the group stage with the top two teams progressing to the quarter-finals. Scotland reached the semi-finals of the tournament last year – their best-ever placing. This will be the third time Scotland have competed at the finals, having appeared in 2008 and at last summer’s tournament, and it is the first time they have qualified for back-to-back finals. The competition will also act as a qualification round for the 2015 FIFA Under-17 World Cup with six places available to European teams. These will be awarded to all four semi-finalists and two of the losing quarter-finalists, decided via two play-off matches. The 24-team tournament will be played in Chile in October and November this year.
