Pitching In

Laying the Foundations for Scottish Football's Future
Pitching In Header

Scottish football inspires the nation and transforms lives. There’s nothing else like it.

Our game connects communities, forges lifelong friendships, improves health and wellbeing, and reduces risk of illness. But to fuel the power of football, we need more facilities, open all-year-round, in every nook and cranny of our country.

Nothing brings people together like football. That's why we're Pitching In.

The Initiative

PITCHING IN is a joint initiative between the Scottish FA and the Scottish Football Partnership Trust that aims to raise £50m over the next five years, to invest in improving football facilities across Scotland.Reaching this ambitious target will be a team effort. We will work with investors who share our aims and ambitions — to maximise the number of people from all backgrounds able to participate in the game we love.

The five-year plan will focus on three key pillars: modernising changing facilities, upgrading older pitches, and adding new facilities in areas of need.

1. The Equaliser

What: Upgrading 75 existing changing facilities. Why: Making facilities more welcoming and accessible, particularly for girls, women and the para community. Result: Adding 1.3m visits each year.

2. The Comeback

What: Upgrade 50 existing 3G pitches. Why: Improving an ageing estate across Scotland. Result: Creating 3m visits each year.

3. The New Signing

What: Building 40 brand-new 3G pitches. Why: Increase the number of high-quality facilities. Result: Additional 2.5m visits per-year.

Sustainability is at the heart of Pitching In.

Facilities built to the highest environmental standards; upgraded spaces that will serve communities for decades, and new places to play and meet created with innovation in mind. We will do this in a sustainable way in all senses of the word — environmental, financial, and ensuring our clubs at all levels can flourish.

The Result

Pitching In will create a combined capacity for 6.8m visits to these facilities per year, providing:

  • Hundreds of games

  • Thousands of players

  • Millions of smiles

  • Limitless fun
