Lee was a key member of the Scotland squad that reached the final of the UEFA Under-19 Championship in 2006, losing 2-1 to Spain. He appeared at the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Canada the following year.
The full-back played regularly for the under-21s throughout 2007 and 2008, before winning his first senior cap in a 2-0 friendly defeat to Japan in October 2009.
His first competitive cap came in a 2-1 UEFA Euro 2012 qualifying win over Liechtenstein at Hampden in September 2010.
