Team News

Grant Scott made one change to the side that came from behind to draw 1-1 with Glasgow City earlier in the week, with Poppy Pritchard starting as Claire Walsh dropped out.
Meanwhile, Glasgow City named an unchanged side from the team that earned a point at Petershill Park on Wednesday night after taking the lead through Linda Motlhalo.

As It Happened

Celtic booked their spot in the Scottish Gas Women’s Scottish Cup Final for the first time in three years with a 3-2 extra-time win over Glasgow City at Hampden.

This was the first time a Celtic side had gotten the better of Glasgow City since August 2024. And Grant Scott’s first opportunity to pick silverware having just arrived at the club in January.

It was a lively start to the game for Glasgow City. With just two minutes on the clock, Leanne Ross’ side found themselves with an opportunity from a free-kick on the right-hand side of the Celtic box, after a foul from Poppy Pritchard.

Lisa Evans fired the ball into the feet of Lisa Forrest, but the Hoops' defence cleared the ball away.

Evans was on hand again in the 12th minute as Glasgow City continued their dominant start to the semi-final with a shot from outside the box that forced Adelaide Gay into a fingertip save.

Despite City’s control, it was Celtic who broke the deadlock in the 27th minute. Amy Gallacher swung a corner in from the left, met by the head of Saoirse Noonan who glanced the ball past Lee Gibson to give Celtic the lead.

On 35 minutes, Glasgow City’s Emma Brownlie was the first name in the referee’s book for a foul on Noonan.

Celtic could have doubled their lead in the 42nd minute after Evans gave the ball away on the left. Tara O’Hanlon chased down the loose ball and cut it back for Noonan but the Irish striker’s attempt on goal was blocked by Kimberley Smit.

Grant Scott’s side had another opportunity in first-half injury time when Gibson’s heavy touch allowed Poppy Pritchard to nick the ball, before the Glasgow City keeper recovered to clear, with Pritchard appearing to take a knock to the face.

It was Celtic who ended the opening 45 minutes with the advantage.

Glasgow City kicked off the second-half with one change as Mebae Tanaka was replaced by Sophia Maatta.

It was another quick start from City at Hampden with two corners in quick succession from Evans, however neither troubled Gay in the Celtic goal.

In the 52nd minute, City striker Emily Whelan flew down the left to meet a delivery from Hayley Lauder. She cut inside and fired the ball in the direction of the bottom corner, but there was no one running on to direct the ball home.

Forrest was close to equalising in the 53rd minute when she attempted to slide onto a cross from Amy Muir, but the PFA Young Player of the Year nominee narrowly missed the ball and Celtic survived.

Celtic turned to their bench in the 65th minute with Scotland internationals Emma Lawton and Shannon McGregor replacing Poppy Pritchard and Evie Rabjohn.

With 69 minutes on the clock, the Hoops almost doubled their lead only for City to be saved by the woodwork after Hannah Luke lashed a shot off of the crossbar.

It was City’s turn to call on reinforcements after 71 minutes with the arrival of Emilie Gray and Codie Thomas, with Evans and Natalie Wrobel departing.

Glasgow City did finally find the back of the net with a deserved equaliser with just seven minutes remaining. South Africa international Motlhalo drove the ball home through a crowded penalty box after being teed up from a corner.

Amy Muir made way on 89 minutes after receiving treatment, replaced by Chloe Warrington just as the board went up showing five minutes of injury time.

Noonan came agonisingly close to snatching a late winner for Celtic in the 94th minute with a header, but it bounced back off the post, and the game went to extra time.

Just two minutes into extra-time, Celtic restored their lead with a strike from Scotland international Gallacher, who fired the ball into the bottom corner to make it 2-1.

Noonan made way for Jenny Smith in the 98th minute, with the Hoops forward holding the back of her thigh.
With seconds to play in the first half of extra time Shannon McGregor sealed the victory for Celtic. A floated ball into the box broke to the back post for McGregor to lash into the roof of the net on her Hampden debut.

Glasgow City pulled a goal back to make it 3-2 with one minute left to play through substitute Emily Gray but Celtic held on to book their return to the national stadium on May 31st.

Celtic will have the opportunity to lift the trophy for the first time since 2023. They will play the winner of tomorrow’s semi-final tie between Rangers and Montrose.

Glasgow City will return to league action as they face a trip to Meadowbank to face Hibernian next weekend.
