Team News

Queen's Park started with 25 goal Cole Goldie in attack, along with Kyle Rodger and Cole Burke have all played in the Spiders' first team this season, hoping that experience would be enough to take the cup across the road to lesser Hampden.

Hearts, meanwhile, used a lot of their B-Team squad who have been competing in the Lowland league this year. Connor Dow is the B-Team’s top scorer and Jaedon Donkor who is a former Manchester United academy product.

As it Happened

The first attack came when Euan Banks had a good run down the left that led to a corner but nothing came of the early chance for Hearts.

Jaedon Donkor then got on to the end of a great long pass but his shot went way over the Queen's goal.

Tommy North was next to have a chance for Hearts but his low driven shot was well saved by the Spiders' keeper Archie Aitchison.

Aitchison was again called into action by Donkor as he palmed a high shot out for another Hearts corner, but again they couldn’t make anything of it.

Hearts again attacked the Queen's goal as we passed the 10 minute mark and Alfie Osborne had a header on goal from another Hearts corner but the whistle was blown for an off the ball foul and Queen's Park got a free kick.

The first chance for Queens Park came from a long range effort from Sam MacLachlan but it was blocked by Osborne and the attack fizzled out.

Stanley Wilson then had a shot from just outside the box but it flew well over the bar as Hearts continued to probe as we passed the half hour mark.

Osborne had another header at the back post from a corner but this time under pressure from Queen's skipper Cole Burke he headed wide.

Hearts finally broke the deadlock shortly after the half hour mark as good work from Dow on the left hand side found North, and although his shot was blocked, it fell to Euan Banks who smashed it into the top corner to put David McNeil’s team in the lead.

A good ball in by Joshua Radcliffe then found the head of North, but his header went over the bar as Hearts continued to look for their second.

North again did well to win the ball high up the pitch and he played it back to Keir McMeekin but his shot was blocked as it ended 1-0 at the break.

Just three minutes into the second half Hearts were awarded a penalty after a foul by Lewis Smith on Tommy North, and North stepped up himself and slotted the ball into the bottom right corner past Aitchison who dived the right way.

Euan Banks then got on the end of a good cross from Liam Walker and struck it pure but it was straight at the keeper who saved easily.

Connor Dow got Hearts their deserved third as a long throw was headed on by North and Dow clipped the ball with his left foot into the bottom corner to surely put the game to bed for Hearts.

Hearts then got their fourth with just under five minutes to go as Jayden Mathie scored from a cross by Taylor Hogarth as the Queen's defence went to sleep.

The game came to a close as Hearts won their fourth Youth Cup, and their first since 2000, starting what could be an exciting period for the club with the Men’s and Women’s first teams both chasing league titles as well.
