Four of Scotland’s most promising young players will have the chance to join the senior squad for training next week at Lesser Hampden.
Head Coach Steve Clarke outlined at Tuesday’s squad announcement that there would be staggered arrival times for his group, with players assessed on a case-by-case basis depending on the conclusion of their campaigns at club level.
It’s opened up the opportunity for him to take a closer look at a quartet who have impressed throughout the national youth team ranks.
Heart of Midlothian striker James Wilson is no stranger to the Scotland setup, having been rewarded for his progress with a first senior appearance against Greece in March 2025.
Wilson, who recently returned from a loan move to Tottenham Hotspur, became the Scotland men’s side’s youngest ever international – surpassing John Lambie’s record – at 18 years and 17 days old.
He’ll be joined by clubmate Liam McFarlane. The Scotland Under-21 shot-stopper caught the eye at first-team level during a loan stint with Alloa Athletic.
Liam will stay with the squad and travel to America as an additional training goalkeeper.
Centre-back Luke Graham has earned rave reviews at the heart of Dundee’s defence, in what has been a productive breakthrough season in the top-flight.
Graham, who also established himself with the Scotland Under-21s, was recently crowned Dundee’s Young Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year.
Finally, Tyler Fletcher, has forced his way into Manchester United’s first-team squad this season, and was handed his debut appearance against Spurs back in February.
The Scotland Under-21 midfielder was named 2026 Denzil Haroun Reserve-Team Player of the Year by United.
Steve Clarke said: “When I announced the squad, I made reference to a few young players joining us for training at Lesser Hampden.
“It’s helpful for us, because it boosts our numbers for training – given the staggered arrivals of those who are still playing domestically – and it allows us to take a closer look at some boys who are on our radar.
“It should also be a very positive experience for the players themselves, who will get an insight into what we look for in the senior squad environment, surrounded by top professionals.
“Liam will meet up later in the week and will travel to America with the squad as a training goalkeeper.”
