Leanne Crichton made wholesale changes to the team who beat Hibs midweek with Jess Pegram, Brogan Hay, Quinty Sabajo, Li Mengwen, Mia McAulay, and Jodi McLeary all introduced to the starting line up.
There were two changes to the Montrose starting line-up with Kaela McDonald-Nguah and Louise Brown coming in with Phoebe Murray dropping to the bench while Charlie Elliott out of the squad.
As It Happened
Rangers will play Celtic in the Scottish Gas Women’s Scottish Cup final after seeing off a stubborn Montrose side.
Katie Wilkinson came off the bench to net a double with a header seven minutes after the restart and then a penalty in the closing seconds of the game.
Montrose, though, will feel that they gave a solid account of themselves on what was their first ever appearance in the Scottish Gas Women’s Scottish Cup semi-final at the national stadium.
Montrose manager Craig Feroz would have been delighted at the manner in which his side started the game.
Up against full-time opponents who are in the running for the SWPL title, Montrose were showed great composure as they found their feet within the game.
Jodi McLeary, back in more central role, had looked to get Rangers going but was denied by a strong Cassie Cowper intervention as she headed straight through on goal.
Teenager May Cruft then rolled a short free-kick to Quinty Sabajo on the edge box but her effort was blocked, with Montrose quickly breaking.
Their attack came to nothing but seemed to offer some encouragement as they started to settle into the game.
Demi Taylor had the ball nicked off her toe by Jess Pegram before she then combined well with Kaela McDonald-Nguah before scooping an effort just over the bar.
Rangers skipper Nicola Docherty was caught by Neve Guthrie and went into referee Lorraine Watson’s book before Quinty Sabajo followed with a late foul on McDonald-Nguah.
Rangers’ frustration was reflected in a few tousy moments across the pitch with Brogan and Hay and Ashley Robertson involved in a bit of a shoving match.
Mia McAulay took a hefty ball to the face and although she played on, she was one of three changes that Leanne Crichton made at the break.
On came Katie Wilkinson, Leah Eddie and Shin Ju Kim.
The breakthrough was not far behind.
Montrose goalkeeper Lauren Perry had spilled the ball with Wilkinson almost making an immediate impact. Montrose survived but their reprieve was short-lived.
McLeary whipped a corner into the box where Wilkinson rose to glance a header into the net.

Brogan Hay curled an effort wide as Rangers looked to double their lead although Montrose, to their credit, tried to rouse themselves.
Taylor forced Jenna Fife into a save as she tipped an effort round the post.
As Rangers looked for the second kill that would kill off Montrose, Hay curled an effort wide before Calliste Brookshire whacked an effort off the crossbar.
The American then headed over the bar after Laura Berry had swung in a cross.
Wilkinson made certain of Rangers’ progression to the final when she netted from the spot in added time, after Erin Ross had gone through Berry in the box.
Wilkinson powered a right-footed effort well beyond the reach of Perry to claim her 40th goal of the season.
It was cruel on a Montrose side who put so much into the game but who struggled to fashion any real moments of note in front of goal.
