Scotland maintained their fantastic start to the Under-16 International Tournament as they beat cross border rivals England in Stirling. The young Scots winning by two goals to nil.
The match began with Scotland being pressed high by the England team, and the game was played at a great pace. Smith shot just over for England from the edge of the box on 32 minutes.
England were given a penalty on 38 minutes for a foul on the edge of the box but a great save from Newman pushed the ball wide from Nonso Madeuke’s penalty. Newman was sharp to his feet to save the follow up and the teams went in even at the half.
Shorty into the second half, Scotland were given the chance to score from the spot, and this time England goalkeeper Collins was the hero saving to his right from Scotland captain Ben Cameron.
Scotland began to push and their high pressing paid dividends as Conor Smith won the ball 35 yards out. Connor Barron picked up the ball and his shot bounced back off the bar and off Collins in the England to give the lead on 67 minutes.
Soon after the second goal on 75 minutes, it came as Ecrepont poked home from close range after Reece McAlear sent his header back across the goal, sending the players into pure elation. The Scots held on to claim a great result against a strong England side.
Scotland now play their final match at the Oriam on Saturday at 1pm against Uruguay. Scotland just need to avoid defeat to be crowned tournament winners.
