The action got under way on Friday night as Dalkeith Thistle hosted Broxburn Athletic and Tynecastle entertained Hill of Beath Hawthorn.

The BBC cameras and the Scottish Cup trophy were in Dalkeith, with pyrotechnics and a large support present for the launch of the 2024/2025 competition. Broxburn spoiled their hosts' big night, however, with Errol Douglas bagging a hat-trick Athletic secured a 4-0 win.

It was also a triumph for the away side in the other of Friday's matches, with the Haws' front three of Dan Watt, John Smith and Jordan Tosh all on target in a 3-2 win over Tynecastle at Meggetland.

The other 28 ties were played on Saturday in an action-packed afternoon of Scottish Cup action.

Highland League and Lowland League leaders both made it through unscathed, with Brechin City winning 1-0 against Newtongrange Star and Caledonian Braves winning 2-0 away to Unversity of Stirling.

Fraserburgh were the day's high-scorers, winning 8-0 at home to Rothes, while Sauchie Juniors enjoyed a memorable 6-0 away win against Strathspey Thistle.

Three matches went the distance and Inverurie Loco Works, Huntly and Keith all prevailed on spot-kicks against Dundonald Bluebells, Wick Academy and Camelon Juniors, respectively.

West of Scotland Premier League side Auchinleck Talbot produced one of the results of the day, winning 2-1 away to Lowland League outfit Albion Rovers. Alex Nimmo and Connor Boyd grabbed their goals, with Adam Fernies' late strike proving a consolation.

Another surprise result came at the Falkirk Stadium as Midlands League side Lochee United defeated another Lowland League team, East Stirlingshire, winning 3-2.

Cupar Hearts - back-to-back Scottish Amatuer Cup winners - were competing in the Scottish Cup First Round for the first time and they took a dream lead within a minute against Berwick Rangers. The Fifers were unable to hang on to the lead, however, and Player of the Match Jonny Devers bagged a brace as Rangers eventually triumphed 4-2.

Bo'ness Athletic fared better on their First Round debut, winning 4-1 away to Dunbar United. Ross Nimmo and Sandy Cunningham were both at the double, while goalkeeper Fraser Currid saved a penalty on a memorable Saturday for Athletic, who have already come through two Preliminary Rounds to reach this stage.
