Scotland captain Rachel Corsie is set to retire following the conclusion of the upcoming UEFA Women’s Nations League matches against Austria and the Netherlands.
Following a lengthy spell side-lined due to injury in 2024, Rachel will return to the squad for the final time before pulling the curtain down on a nineteen-year career.
After representing the Under-19s, the defender made her senior Scotland debut in 2009 before going on to be named captain in 2017 following the retirement of Gemma Fay. Corsie featured in all three group games in the 2017 UEFA European Championships, before leading the side in the 2019 FIFA World Cup.
Corsie went on to become a global name in the game, thanks to a career which started at Aberdeen before heading to Glasgow City and beyond to Australia, USA and finally to the WSL.
With 154 international appearances amassed and 20 goals for her country, Corsie reflects on what she says has been the honour of her life: “This has been the hardest decision that I’ve ever made. My heart and my head want me to continue, but I know this is the right moment for me.
“It's been a wonderful journey and when I look at where the game is now, it gives me great pride to know that I've played a part in that.
“To play for Scotland has been one of the greatest things I’ve ever done, and I’ve felt so much pride in leading this team for so many years. I'll hold those years and memories close to my heart forever.
Looking ahead to the upcoming window, Corsie added: “Potentially being able to play my final minutes in the game in a Scotland shirt means the world and it's a really fitting way to bring the curtain down on my career in the professional game. I’m incredibly grateful to Melissa for the opportunity to end it this way.
“To play and to captain for this amazing country was more than I ever dreamt was possible. Even though I won’t be in the dressing room or on the pitch, I’ll always be an ally and a supporter of the Scotland Women’s National team.
“I’m ready to give it one hundred per cent one last time before I leave with my heart full of memories, achievements and excitement for the future.”
SWNT Head Coach, Melissa Andreatta: “Rachel is an amazing servant to the game and has proven her quality time and time again.
“You can see the resilience she’s shown to battle back from her latest injury and she’s made no secret of the fact that representing Scotland has always been her motivation.
“We welcome her back into camp for the final time and I know she’ll give it her all until the very end.”
