Head Coach Steve Clarke made a number of changes from the side who started against Curacao, with Angus Gunn, Jack Hendry, Grant Hanley, Lewis Ferguson, Scott McTominay and Che Adams all coming in from the start.

As it happened

Scotland had started slowly in the last outing against Curacao but we made a blistering start in New Jersey, taking the lead inside five minutes through Lawrence Shankland.

It was a well worked goal, with Ryan Christie linking up with Andy Robertson who got to the byline before dinking over a cross that was expertly nodded home by Shankland at the far post.

Scotland nearly made it 2-0 inside 10 minutes as a powerful run from Ben Gannon-Doak released Che Adams who attempted to curl home from just inside the box, forcing Bolivia stopper Guillermo Viscarra into a low save.

In searing temperatures – 32 degrees at kick off – the match settled after the fast start from the Scots, with Clarke’s side content to keep the ball for periods.

The next chance of note then came in the 20th minute as Shankland laid the ball off for strike partner Adams who whistled a low shot inches wide of the far post.

Scotland were dominant and deservedly went two goals in front moments later as Shankland flicked Christie’s precise centre into the path of Scott McTominay who lashed home from the edge of the area to make it 2-0.

After the first water break of the afternoon, Bolivia registered their first attempt on goal as Robson Matheus let fly from the edge of the area but Angus Gunn was equal to it, diving low to his left.

It had been a dream opening half for Scotland and it got even better as Adams made it 3-0 by firing home from close range.

It was another well-worked move, with Aaron Hickey’s precise through ball releasing the electric Gannon-Doak who squared the ball, allowing Torino striker Adams to slam home.

There was very nearer a fourth Scotland goal a couple of minutes later, as Christie latched onto a loose pass and carried the ball over 50 yards before firing a shot in at the near post but it was too close to Viscarra.

Gannon-Doak was next to go close, forcing Viscarra to palm the ball away and, from the resulting corner, Robertson nearly got in on the act as he headed over.

The fourth eventually did come before half-time and it was no less than Scotland deserved, as Gannon-Doak capped an impressive half with another mazy run before laying the ball off to Adams.

His initial shot was blocked but as the loose ball came back to him he lashed home to cap a strong half from the Scots in Harrison.

Clarke shuffled his pack at the break, introducing vice-captain John McGinn for Ryan Christie, while Kieran Tierney replaced skipper Andy Robertson.

Gunn had enjoyed a quiet game but he was called into action in the 54th minute, diving to his left to palm away a free-kick from Carlos Melgar.

The second half became a disjointed affair, though Shankland was inches away from a first Scotland hat-trick as he sidefooted Tierney’s low cross past the post.

As expected, Scotland made a raft of changes after the hour mark, with Anthony Ralston, Kenny McLean, Findlay Curtis, George Hirst and Ross Stewart entering the fray.

Tyler Fletcher, a late call-up to the squad, also won his second cap late on, while Souttar and Hyam also came off the bench.

Substitute Hirst fired narrowly wide as Scotland looked to finish with a flourish but it would remain 4-0 as the Scots secured a morale-boosting victory on the eve of the FIFA World Cup.
