After an impressive break-out season in which he made the most appearances of any player in the squad, he signed for Scottish Premiership side Dundee United in June 2013.
After helping United to the 2014 Scottish Cup Final and winning the PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year award that season, Robertson earned a move to English Premier League side Hull City.
After three seasons with Hull, he signed for English giants Liverpool in July 2017.
The left-back soon became an integral part of the team, winning two English Premier League titles, two League Cups, the FA Cup and the UEFA Champions League during a golden era for the club.
At international level, Robertson received a first senior Scotland call up while at Dundee United in March 2014, making his debut as a second half substitute in a 1-0 friendly win against Poland in Warsaw.
On only his fifth cap, he scored his first Scotland goal during a friendly match against England at Celtic Park in November 2014.
Robertson was named the captain of his country by Alex McLeish in September 2018 and has led the team ever since, breaking the record for the most games as captain of the men's national team.
He featured in all three group games for Scotland at both the EURO 2020 and EURO 2024 tournaments and started all six qualifiers as Scotland qualified for the World Cup for the first time since 1998.
