
William Ferguson Miller was born in Glasgow on 2 May 1955. Miller joined Aberdeen in 1971 and spent his entire 20-year playing career there, breaking the club’s record for most appearances. As captain, he led the team to glory in the European Cup Winners’ Cup as well as three Scottish League championships in 1980, 1984 and 1985 as well as four Scottish Cups and a Scottish League Cup. Miller made his Scotland debut in 1975, aged 20, in a 1-1 draw against Romania. He went on to win 65 caps and played in the World Cups in 1982 and 1986 often with Aberdeen teammates Alex McLeish alongside him and Jim Leighton behind in goal.
