As It Happened
Scotland had a very positive opening period with a number of chances created. Erin Cuthbert and Chelsea Cornet both had efforts blocked before Martha Thomas stretched to reach the ball; missing it by a matter of inches. A Claire Emslie ball was then crossed into the back post area which met Kirst Hanson however Hanson’s attempt from a tight angle went just wide of the target.
On the 20 minute mark, Eartha Cumings was called into action and reacted well to an attempted lob from Hmírová, managing to tip the shot over the bar.
Both teams had chances in the first half in the difficult conditions however the sides went into half time on level terms.
Scotland has a perfect start to the second half, opening the scoring within a minute of the restart. Kirsty Hanson put a tantalising ball across the face of goal which found Claire Emslie who got on the end of it and slid it in to give Scotland the advantage.
In the 58th minute, the game was suspended due to the tempestuous weather conditions in Nitra. After a lengthy delay, and with the weather clearing up, the players returned to the pitch and play resumed.
Scotland doubled their lead in the 71st minute when Erin Cuthbert cut in from the right and put a low ball in, which was taken by the Slovakian defender, however the defender stayed on the ball a moment too long and Claire Emslie swooped in to steal the ball from her feet and smash home to secure the three points for Scotland.
