Alex McLeish names seven uncapped players for Peru and Mexico matches

Lewis Stevenson, John Souttar and Lewis Morgan have been rewarded for impressive club form with their first call-ups to the national side.

Aged 30, Stevenson has been capped at Under-19 and Under-21 level and will be an option in the left-back position with Andy Robertson ruled out due to his involvement in the Champions League Final.

Lewis Morgan helped spearhead St. Mirren to a famous season where they won the Championship at a canter, scoring 18 goals. Next season he will join Celtic.

John Souttar has been an ever present figure in the Scotland Under-21s rear guard as well as Hearts and he is named by Alex McLeish for the first time.

The last time Scotland were in action, Matt Phillips scored Scotland’s only goal against Hungary in a 1-0 win.

The West Brom striker is retained in the squad along with Barry Douglas who made his Scotland debut in that match in Budapest.

Scott McTominay returns to the squad and will travel to Peru after competing for Manchester United in the FA Cup Final against Chelsea this weekend.

Johnny Russell has made a return to the squad along with Dylan McGeouch who missed out on the last camp through injury.

Both Peru and Mexico are using the matches as preparations for the World Cup in Russia and around 400 Scotland supporters are expected to travel for both games.

Alex McLeish said: "I'm really excited to work with the players included. They have all been guys who have been in really good form for their clubs.

"I've known Lewis (Stevenson) since he was a kid and he's been very consistent. I've rarely seen a full-back play at such a level throughout a season. So many legends of the game have also echoed my sentiments.

"John (Souttar) is a good young prospect and been playing under Peter Grant at the under-21s, progressing very well.

"He's still got a lot to learn but he's had a great season under Christophe Berra who would have kept him right.

"I love to see young players getting a chance and Lewis Morgan is certainly someone who has emerged.

"I've had a lot of feedback from people who have worked with him and he's really dynamic. We need to start encouraging that level of talent."
