International Friendly Match
Türkiye v Scotland
Wednesday, 16 November 2022 (kick-off 5pm UK)
Diyarbakir Stadium, Diyarbakir

Scotland bring their 2022 fixture list to a close on Wednesday as they travel to Diyarbakir for an international friendly match against Türkiye.

Scotland Head Coach Steve Clarke will look to round off the year by going five matches unbeaten after taking seven points from a possible nine in September’s UEFA Nations League triple header.

After securing promotion to the top tier of the UEFA Nations League and securing the safety net of a play-off spot for UEFA EURO 2024 qualification, Scotland will now take on a side they have only faced on one previous occasion, a 4-2 defeat in 1960, who are ranked 5 places below them in the FIFA world rankings.

The match will offer invaluable preparation for what promises to be an exciting 2023 for the men’s national side, including the UEFA EURO 2024 qualifiers and an anniversary heritage match against England to commemorate the first ever international match in 1872.

Team News

Scotland will be boosted by the return of captain Andy Robertson and centre half Grant Hanley, who both missed the September international window due to injury.

Lewis Ferguson is rewarded with a recall to the squad following his hugely impressive run of form that has seen him score three times in Serie A in recent weeks and cement his place in the Bologna side.

JD Performance School graduate Calvin Ramsay will hope to make his Scotland debut on his first call-up to the senior squad after making his debut for Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League in recent weeks.

Vice-captain John McGinn will be looking to build on his strong form for the national side after earning his 51st cap and moving into the top ten Scotland goal scorers during the last international window.

Pre-match thoughts

Scotland Head Coach Steve Clarke: “Türkiye are rebuilding and they’re a dangerous team. We’re ranked pretty similarly.

“We’re expecting a tough game and it should be a good atmosphere because it’s always pretty lively out there.

“It’ll be a good experience for the players to play in a hostile environment even though it’s a friendly.

“Hopefully we’ll put on a good performance. We’re four games unbeaten and we want to take that into March.

“I didn’t play in Türkiye but I went out there a couple of times as a coach. It was always lively and really noisy. It’s something to look forward to."

Where to watch

The match is live on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Football, with a 5pm kick off.
