Scotland v Iceland
International Friendly
Friday, 6 June 2025 (7.45pm kick-off, UK time)
Hampden Park, Glasgow
With the FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers looming large, Scotland are back in action on Friday night at Hampden Park for an international friendly against Iceland.
Steve Clarke and his side are stepping up preparations for our Group C campaign, which kicks off in Denmark in September.
Team news
There's a first call-up for Hibernian striker Kieron Bowie, who has impressed for Scotland's Under-21s.
The powerful front-man is one of seven uncapped players in the squad, alongside Andy Irving, Cieran Slicker, Connor Barron, Josh Doig, Lennon Miller and Robbie McCrorie.
Influential defender Kieran Tierney is in line to win his 50th cap for his country.
The group have been in good spirits at their Lesser Hampden training base this week - boosted by fine domestic campaigns for a host of those involved.
Captain Andy Robertson is fresh from winning the English Premier League with Liverpool.
Napoli duo Billy Gilmour and Scott McTominay helped inspire their side to Serie A success, with the latter named the league's MVP, while Bologna skipper Lewis Ferguson tasted Coppa Italia glory.
Doig is also celebrating a return to the Italian top-flight after winning Serie B with Sassuolo.
Scottish FA JD Performance School graduate Max Johnston scooped the Austrian title with Sturm Graz, Grant Hanley helped Birmingham City to the EFL League One summit and - closer to home - Anthony Ralston added to his collection with another Scottish Premiership winners' medal with Celtic.
Pre-match thoughts
Johnston is hoping to add to his sole senior cap across the friendly double-header against Iceland and Liechtenstein - encouraged by a fine campaign in Austria.
He said: "It's amazing to see how many trophies, in some many countries, that the boys have won.
"It's also amazing to see so many Scottish players doing so well abroad. It's really encouraging for us that players are starting to win titles now and win cups. I think that's going to be huge for us.
"As a footballer, you want to be a winner.
"It was really enjoyable for me, winning the league over in Austria. It was a good season and I feel like I've definitely improved by getting the amount of minutes that I've managed to get over the last year or so. I feel as though I've been learning and improving every week.
"I've had a small taste of it with Scotland and it's just made me hungry for more.
"I want to try and bring what I can to the squad. I like to get forward from my position and create attacking chances."
