Scotland play Northern Ireland this Wednesday in their first meeting at Hampden Park since a 0-0 draw back in 2008.

Of the 11 Scotland players who started that day, four remain in the Scotland squad and two are in management positions. Here’s where the 2008 team are now:

Craig Gordon
Then at Sunderland, Gordon is back in the Scotland squad and playing regularly for Celtic after a lengthy injury lay-off. Lifted the 2015 Scottish League Cup.

Graham Alexander
Manager of Fleetwood Town who he led to League Two play-off glory last season. The penalty specialist earned 40 caps for Scotland during his playing career.

Stephen McManus (c)
Former Celtic & Middlesborough defender is now back playing in Scotland with Motherwell, where he has made 29 appearances this season.

David Weir

Currently Assistant Manager to Mark Warburton at Brentford. Made 69 appearances for Scotland between 1997 & 2010.

Gary Naysmith
Another former Scotland defender who is cutting his managerial teeth - Naysmith is currently player/manager at Scottish League Two side East Fife.

Scott Brown

In his second season at Celtic at the time of the 2008 Northern Ireland game, Brown is now Scotland & Celtic captain and was voted SPFA Players’ Player of the Year in 2009.

Kevin Thomson
Former Hibernian, Rangers & Middlesborough midfielder is now playing in the Scottish Premiership with Dundee.

Darren Fletcher
Most capped player in the current Scotland squad and captain of West Bromwich Albion after a January move from Manchester United.

James Morrison
Another player who has kept his place in the Scotland squad, the West Brom midfielder has featured in 10 of Gordon Strachan’s 17 games in charge of the national side.

Kenny Miller
Scotland’s sixth highest goalscorer is currently playing under his former Scotland coach Stuart McCall at Rangers.

James McFadden
Scorer of the famous goal against France in the Parc des Princes, McFadden is now at St Johnstone where he has made nine starts this season.


Allan McGregor (Gordon 46")
Then Rangers keeper replaced Gordon at half time and saved a penalty. Now first-choice at Hull City after a spell at Turkish side Besiktas.

Darren Barr (McManus 46")
Came on for his Scotland debut. Won the Scottish Cup with Hearts in 2008 and now at Ross County.

Christophe Berra (Weir 72")
In the current Scotland squad and playing for Ipswich Town in the English Championship. Has 28 caps and two goals for the national side.

Barry Robson (Thomson 46")
Spent time in Canada with MLS side Vancouver Whitecaps in 2012. Is now playing in the Scottish Premiership with Aberdeen, where he won the League Cup in 2014.

Michael Stewart (Fletcher 69")
Former Hearts & Hibernian midfielder is now a TV pundit. Game against Northern Ireland was his final appearance for Scotland.

Kris Commons (Morrison 62")
Signed for Celtic in 2011 where he has won six honours including three league titles and two Scottish Cups.
