Biography
Jimmy ‘Jinky’ Johnstone was born in Viewpark, North Lanarkshire in September 1944. Making his debut for Celtic in 1963, Johnstone scored 129 goals in 514 for the Hoops, winning the League nine times, the Scottish Cup four times and the League Cup five times. He also cemented his place in history as part of the 1967 European Cup winning ‘Lisbon Lions’ squad.
He made his Scotland debut in October 1964 against Wales in a Home Championship match. He was part of the 1974 World Cup squad. Johnstone won 23 caps for his country, scoring four goals.
Jimmy passed away in March 2006 at the age of 61.
