The Scottish Gas Women’s Scottish Cup semi-finalists are now confirmed after the draw took place at Barclays Hampden earlier.

Nine-time winners Glasgow City will face Celtic, whilst holders Rangers will take on either Montrose or Dundee United.

Ties will be played on Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 May.

Host Gordon Duncan was joined by Scotland’s very own Gladiator, CrossFit athlete, weightlifting champion and Bafta-award winning Sabre aka Sheli McCoy.

Speaking after the draw, Sheli said: “It was actually really fun. I wasn’t too sure what to expect and how technical it would be, but Gordon made me feel at ease and it was just like having a conversation with my friend about something that I’m really passionate about.”

The Saturday night superhero has a busy schedule that includes everything from managing her own gym to competing in CrossFit Championships.

She added: “Life is a juggle at the minute and I have to prioritise what means the most to me. For me, I prioritise the ability to educate, motivate and inspire. My platform is something that I want to use to increase participation in sport for young girls and boys.

“I want to represent and support access to Scottish sport and help boost visibility, attendance, ticket sales and do what I can to drive women’s sport forward in Scotland.

“Being a Gladiator means I need to be at the top of my game, physically, so I have to spend time maintaining that. I also own, work and coach in my gym in Dundee so I have a very good and busy schedule but if I ever drop the ball, my Mum sorts it out for me.”

With a new season of Gladiators in full swing, Sheli admitted the opportunities to increase the visibility of Scottish female role models in the world of sport and fitness has been invaluable:

“One thing that Gladiators has done has create an ability to look like anyone. We have athletes of different heights, different sizes, different colours of hair, skin, eyes on the show and it’s created this inclusivity for all young children to believe that they are capable of anything.

“The message isn’t just about being an athlete, it’s about being confident, getting enough sleep at night, drinking enough water, making sensible food choices and being involved in activity and adventure of any kind. Anything that can get young people off their iPads and involved in activity is going to have an impact. If that young person wants to go on and have a career in that area, that’s fantastic. But if they don’t, we’ve just been part of creating a healthier society in the future.”

As a proud Dundonian Sheli says she’s committed to giving back to people in her local community: “I visit at least one school a week and one of the things I tell them is that my postcode is the same as yours. I’m here as a girl who just wanted to do sport and fitness.

“I wanted to do my best and that’s led me to the place I’m in now. I think that can give a lot of those children hope that you don’t have to be in the thick of sport or be living in a massive city to get those opportunities. You just have to work hard, keep showing up and believe in yourself.”
