Portugal v Scotland
UEFA Under-21 Championship Qualifying
Tuesday, 31 March 2026 (7:30pm kick-off, UK time)
Estádio António Coimbra Da Mota, Estoril

Back on the road again, Scot Gemmill’s side are in Estoril to take on group leaders Portugal at the Estádio António Coimbra Da Mota.

After a battling draw at Dens on Friday night, the young Scots face Pot 1 side Portugal as they continue their quest for qualification to the Under-21 Championships in Albania and Serbia in 2027.

The sides met back in September at Fir Park, with the visitors coming out on top with a 2-0 victory. The game was closer than the scoreline suggests, however, and the 21s squad is one filled with promise and a desire to get a result in Iberia.

Scotland currently sit 3rd in Group B behind Portugal and level on points with Czechia as we approach the last handful of fixtures, with group winners advancing and second placed sides facing a play-off.

Team News

Scot Gemmill has has two withdrawals from the squad, and one suspension. Robbie Ure and Matthew Anderson had remained with their clubs for the first fixture in this window against Czechia, with the hope of joining up with the squad in Portugal, but both have been unable to return to fitness for it. Andy Tod collected a third yellow card against Czechia in Dundee and is suspended for the game against Portugal.

Pre-match thoughts

Scotland Under-21 Manager Scot Gemmill had this to say ahead of the game.

“We’re looking forward to the game, it is a great opportunity for the players to really test themselves against some high-level players.

It is a game where you have to be switched on, as mistakes will be punished as we learned at Fir Park.

The group has come on a lot since September, and we’re looking forward to the challenge.”
