The Scottish Gas Men's Scottish Cup Fourth Round got underway in spectacular fashion on Friday evening as Brechin City's Scott Bright blasted the Highland League leaders in front against Hearts.

But Yan Dhanda equalised just before half-time with another exquisite strike from 25 yards. And the Premiership side's class told in the second half as a Kevin McHattie own goal and a double from new signing Elton Kabangu saw Hearts record a comfortable 4-1 victory in the end.

11 matches took place in the traditional Saturday 3pm slot and all games began with a poignant moment as supporters across the country observed a minute's applause for Scotland legend Denis Law who passed away on Friday evening.

Aberdeen's trip to face Elgin City at Borough Briggs looks the most intriguing match and Elgin City started brightly, before Shayden Morris' goal on 21 minutes gave the Dons the lead. Aberdeen famously came unstuck against non-League Darvel two seasons ago but there would be no hint of an upset this time around as Duk's first two goals of the season eventually saw the Dons to a 3-0 victory.

On a day of few upsets, it was Livingston who provided the surprise result as they claimed a last-gasp win away at Ross County. After a 2-2 draw in normal time - with goals from Jordan White and Ronan Hale cancelled out by strikes from Robbie Muirhead and Cristian Montano - the game looked set for penalties before Andrew Shinnie's 119th minute goal gave Livi the win.

Ayr United were the highest scorers on Saturday afternoon as they ended Broxburn Athletic's Scottish Cup run by scoring eight unanswered goals away from home. Jay Henderson grabbed a hat-trick with Lenny Agbaire, George Oakley, Mark McKenzie, Jake Hastie and Dylan Watret also on target.

St Mirren saw off Queen of the South in the Fourth Round for the second season in a row, with Toyosi Olusanya's first half brace putting them 2-0 in front at half-time. Brennan Dickenson pulled a goal back with 15 minutes remaining to set up a nervy finish but the Doonhamers could not find a leveller and Caelen Boyd-Munce wrapped up a 3-1 win in added time to send the Saints through.

Clydebank took over two thousand supporters to Easter Road for their tie against Hibernian but the Bankies fell behind in the opening 90 seconds as Junior Hoilett squared for Martin Boyle who slotted home. The West of Scotland Premier League side kept Hibs at bay for the rest of the first half though, before David Gray's side's class eventually told as Martin Boyle grabbed a second goal and young midfielder Rudi Molotnikov also got on the scoresheet as the match ended 3-0.

Dunfermline also recorded a 3-0 victory on a landmark day for the Fife club, with their takeover by Park Bench SFC LLC confirmed and new manager Michael Tidser in the dugout for the first time. Chris Hamilton, Ewan Otoo and Lewis McCann were all on target for the Pars.

St Johnstone had been on a nine game winless run but the Scottish Gas Men's Scottish Cup would provide them with some respite from league business as they enjoyed a 1-0 victory over fellow Premiership side Motherwell. Makenzie Kirk scrambled home the opener inside the first ten minutes from a Graham Carey corner and the Perth side held on to ensure they would be in the hat for Monday evening's Fifth Round Draw.

The Championship's bottom side Airdieonians are also enjoying a wretched season and the cup provided a welcome distraction for them too. Rhys McCabe's side had five different players on the scoresheet as they recorded a 5-1 victory away to League One Dumbarton.

Musselburgh Athletic have been this season's surprise package, reaching the Fourth Round for the first time in their history. They fell behind to a sensational strike from Stephen Hendrie but Jamie Todd levelled early in the second half to send the travelling supporters wild. And the score remained level until the last minute when Hamilton broke Musselburgh's hearts with a Sean McGinty goal and Oli Shaw added gloss to the scoreline with the last kick off the game to make it 3-1.

Queen's Park looked to be heading out after a Brad Lyon's double had Montrose 2-1 in front at Hampden Park but Zak Rudden's last minute goal to the game to extra-time and Josh Scott grabbed what proved to be the winner early in the additional period to seal a 3-2 victory for the Spiders.

League One Cove Rangers are the lowest ranked side confirmed in the Fifth Round Draw after they secured a 2-0 victory over League Two Forfar Athletic.

Celtic boasted an incredible 100 per cent record under manager Brendan Rodgers and they maintained this with a hard-fought victory over Kilmarnock at Celtic Park in Saturday's late kick off. Captain Callum McGregor's low drive from outside the box gave the Hoops an early lead but young striker Bobby Wales equalised for Killie, stabbing in at the back post after Fraser Murray's cross deflected into his path off Robbie Deas.

The second half was fairly even until Celtic struck with twenty minutes to go, with Daizen Maeda coolly slotting into after good work by Nicolas Kuhn.

Sunday's first match saw an all-Championship affair as Falkirk hosted Raith Rovers and the game remained goalless until the 79th minute when Sam Stanton's horrible backpass was intercepted by Ross McIvor, allowing Callumn Morrison to slot home what looked to be the winner. But Stanton made amends five minutes later, swivelling superbly to fire home a half volley after Falkirk had failed to clear a corner, and Raith completed the turnaround in the second period of extra-time as Dylan Easton scored a penalty after Sean Mackie had fouled Josh Mullin.

Sunday's second game saw Highland League Fraserburgh make the long journey to Ibrox to face Rangers and The Broch frustrated Rangers for over half an hour until Cyrian Dessers nodded home from a corner. Mark Cowie's side were inches away from going into half-time level though, as Scott Barbour intercepted Rangers keeper Mason Munn's poor pass but his shot flew inches wide.

That would be as good as it got for Fraserburgh, however, as Dessers completed his hat-trick in the second half and Clinton Nsiala and Ross McAusland also got on the scoresheet as the match ended 5-0.
