David George Herd was born in Hamilton on 15 April 1934.
David Herd’s unique claim to fame is that he appeared in the same team as his father Alec for Stockport County against Hartlepool in May 1951; he marked the occasion by scoring both goals in a 2-0 win. He joined the Edgely Park side as an amateur in 1949 and having proved his proficiency as a goalscorer moved to Arsenal in 1954.
