John Browning

John Browning was born in Dumbarton on 29 November, 1888.
After an early career in junior football with Glasgow Perthshire, Bonhill Hibernian, Dumbarton Harp and Vale of Leven, Browning joined Celtic in April 1911 but did not settle immediately and went back on loan to Dumbarton Harp and Vale of Leven. Once he broke into the Celtic first team, however, he was a great success, and was a mainstay of the team that won the 1914 Scottish Cup Final (scoring two of Celtic's four goals).
