Scotland Men's Under-17 Head Coach Brian McLaughlin has today named his squad to compete in the Under-17 EURO elite round later this month.

The young Scots will compete in Group 2 alongside Montenegro, Wales and Iceland. The matches will take place in Newport, Wales.

McLaughlin's side reached the elite round by qualifying out of a four-team group that included Czech Republic, Malta and Northern Ireland.

It is the second successive year that the Under-17s have reached the elite round, with last year's side going one better by qualifying for the finals in Israel.

This finals this year will be held in Hungary in May and McLaughlin's side will have aspirations to qualify again. The eight group winners in the elite round will qualify automatically, with the seven best runners-up joining them.

The Scots begin with a match against hosts Wales on Wednesday, 22 March before taking on Montenegro three days later.

Their campaign concludes with a game against Iceland on Tuesday, 28 March.

A number of players in this side competed in Israel last May, while 12 members of this squad have come through the Scottish FA JD Performance School programme.

The Under-17s' last outing was in February against Switzerland, when a hat-trick from Rory Wilson inspired them to a remarkable 7-0 friendly win.
