Melissa Andreatta made three changes to the team that started June’s draw with the Netherlands, with Nicola Docherty, Rachel McLauchlan and Kirsty Hanson all coming in to replace Sophie Howard, Mia McAulay and Freya Gregory.

Georgia Brown was handed her first senior call up and took her place on the bench with a potential Scotland debut on the cards.

As It Happened

Scotland began strongly on a tough playing surface, immediately creating an opening in the 6th minute when skipper Caroline Weir slipped in Rachel McLauchlan on the right, though she took too long to unleash the cross with the ball eventually going out for a goal kick.

Scotland created their first chance of the match two minutes later when Amy Muir’s cross picked out Weir just inside the box with the midfielder curling her shot over the crossbar.

Morocco gained a foothold in the game after soaking up early pressure from the Scots and had their first shot on goal in the 16th minute. An in-swinging corner was headed clear by Jenna Clark though it fell to Elodie Nakkach on the edge of the box and the Servette midfielder fired just over Lee Gibson’s crossbar on the volley.

The hosts created another chance in the 20th minute when Ibtissam Jraidi’s bustling run was halted, with the ball falling for Hanane Ait El Haj whose shot was goal bound had it not been for a fantastic Erin Cuthbert block, sending the ball out for a Morocco corner.

Scotland looked dangerous in attack, with Erin Cuthbert’s 26th minute cross causing havoc in the Moroccan penalty area, as she looked for Kathleen McGovern, though the hosts were eventually able to clear.

Cuthbert’s endeavour was rewarded with the opening goal in the 41st minute, direct from a corner kick. Nicola Docherty’s looping cross was tipped wide by Khadija Er Rmichi, leading to the corner, with which Cuthbert managed to curl home from the quadrant to give Scotland the lead.

Morocco almost responded immediately to going behind when the ball fell to Ghizlane Chebbak on the edge of the box though the midfielder could only rifle her shot over the crossbar, seeing the Scots into the interval with a one goal lead.

Despite the scoreline, Morocco was the team in the ascendency heading into the break and they nearly made the perfect start to the second period when Jraidi headed wide of target from an in-swinging cross within two minutes of the restart.

Scotland created their first chance of the second half in the 59th minute when Weir laid the ball back for goalscorer, Cuthbert, though the Chelsea midfielder’s effort was comfortably held by Er Rmichi.

Andreatta turned to her bench for the first time just after the hour mark, bringing on Amy Rodgers to replace Kirsty MacLean.

Nine minutes later, and the Australian shuffled the pack again with Martha Thomas and Sophie Howard being called upon to replace Kathleen McGovern and Emma Lawton.

Scotland appeared to have control of the match, limiting the hosts to hopeful balls into the box for most of the second period, though they were hit with a sucker punch in the 80th minute.

Imane Saoud’s ball to the back post was met by Sakina Ouzraoui Diki, whose looping header was cleared off the line by Clark, though only as far as Nakkach who rifled past Lee Gibson via the aid of a deflection to equalise.

Two substitutes nearly combined for Scotland’s winner in the 85th minute when Lauren Davidson picked out Martha Thomas at the back post, with the striker failing to connect with her acrobatic effort.

With 90 minutes on the clock, Er Rmichi’s kickout dropped to the feet of Weir with the Real Madrid maestro shifting the ball onto her weaker right foot before audaciously chipping the goalkeeper from forty yards – netting a goal worthy of winning any game as Melissa Andreatta secured her first win as Scotland Women’s National Team Head Coach in spectacular fashion.
