After Scotland’s sensational 9-nil win against North Macedonia, the next match was sure to be one that Gary Doctor’s side were relishing, as a win would ensure them qualification for the Euros tournament in Bosnia-Herzegovina this summer.
It would be a big match-up against a Norway side that had previously drawn with the Scots last year when they faced each other in Round 1 of their Euros qualification campaign.
Scotland made three changes with Ashley Robertson, Sophia Martin and Izzy Young coming in for Sienna McGoldrick, Sophie Townsley, and Isla Taylor.
As It Happened
The Scots were quick off the mark with an early chance for Izzy Young, but Norway were strong in the defence of their box.
However, it was Norway that got the first goal, as Anny Kerim-Lindland got a shot past Braelynn Galt, adding to an already fiery encounter.
Although chasing the game, Scotland fought on with Sophia Martin forcing a save from Norway keeper Kroken. Jess Husband’s corner saw a similar chance come with her coming onto her own ball following a Norwegian attempt to clear.
Norway saw their lead double just before the end of the half as Anna Malmin was able to get onto a long ball from Mille Flø, which she was able to bring down, control and slot past Galt to put more pressure on Scotland’s efforts to get back into the game.
Norway continued pressing for another, but the defensive efforts of Abi Tobin and Erin Husband saw Scotland weather the storm and push forward with their eyes on a goal; Tobin saw her curling chance catch the wind and see Norway’s Kroker forced into the save.
Izzy Young continued to tenaciously put pressure on the Norwegian defence, forcing Flø to cut out a storming run up the wing with a heavy shoulder challenge.
At the end of the half, Malmin saw a chance stopped by Galt with a defiant defence of her goal, sliding in to clear the ball from the feet of the striker.
Scotland came into the second half fired up and pushing to get onto the scoresheet, with Laura Berry breaking through to put a swift ball through to Neve McDonald, but their opponents were equally determined to stop them from scoring.
A heavy tackle on Jess Husband drew the foul, and she lined up to take the free kick just as she had against Belgium, feigning a shot to give Abi Tobin the chance to try for the goal, but it just spun wide of the target.
The tempo of the game matched the ferocity on show by both teams, with several instances of physical tackles, and Sophie Townsley and Laura Berry’s breaks deep into the Norwegian half came under heavy marking.
Although two goals down, Scotland kept fighting, with Jess Husband breaking deeper into Norway’s half, putting a wide ball out to Sophie Black, who in turn curled a cross back into Husband, but she was unable to convert the chance into a goal.
She was soon followed by a rapid break down the wing by Sophie Townsley, which saw her fly a pass into McDonald and keep the pressure on the Norwegian defence as they looked to get back into the game.
The Scottish siege would soon pay off as substitute Olivia Chomczuk proved when she got the Scots a goal deep into the half from a cross that came in from well-worked play by Abi Tobin, whose pass went through to Sophie Townsley and the intercepted cross from Townsley fell to Chomczuk, who wasted no time in rifling the shot past Kroken.

It proved to be the catalyst to lift the spirits of the Scots, whose consistent technical efforts to twist and turn their way around their opponents, whose size and physicality the Scots were soon becoming wise to.
Unfortunately, despite their goal and determined efforts, Scotland were unable to find another, and although there was a late chance for Jess Husband in the dying minutes of the game, it was not to be.
