It was a trio of victories for Scotland Women’s under-16s as they took part in a triple-header in Tirana as part of a UEFA Development Tournament last week.

Head coach, Nichola Greig, named a 20-player squad for the friendly competition which took place at the House of Football Stadium, with three fixtures across six days.

First up for the Young Team was Portugal and the Scots ran out eventual winners after the match finished 1-1 in regulation time. Mae English secured the equaliser in the second half to take the game to penalties. Two saves from ‘keeper Rowena Armitage helped seal the victory, with Scotland coming out on top with a 4-2 win from the spot.

Next up was Albania and there were 8 changes to the starting line-up from the team that faced Portugal. It was a particularly physical encounter against the hosts but neither side could break the deadlock in the first half and it was a deflected strike from Orla Burn that was the match decider.

An unbeaten Scotland side Scotland faced a composed Kosovo side in the final game of the tournament. Freya Brien opened the scoring from a well-drilled corner routine and Dara Ositelu doubled Scotland’s lead with a late breakaway move.

Next up:

The young team will return home to face Switzerland in a friendly double-header next month.
