Team News

Scotland Women’s Under-17s Head Coach Michael Tuhoy made four changes to the team that narrowly lost to Morocco on Monday.

Toni Campbell, Erin O’Brien, Fearne Smith and Saoirse Coyle Morrow joined the starting XI, replacing Phoebe O’Donnell, Dara Ositelu, Ava Crawford and Mehak Khanna.

As It Happened

From kick-off, both sides had chances at either end of the pitch. A free-kick for Wales in the opening minutes of the game tested Scotland’s nerve early on, but their effort went wide.

As both sides battled to take the lead, it was Scotland who prevailed, Freya McIndoe floating a cross into the waiting Jessica Ramsay, who confidently controlled before curling a shot from the edge of the box that flew over Wales keeper Jessica Bryan’s fingertips and into the back of the net.

Scotland immediately built on their advantage with Erin O’Brien trying her luck a minute later, but her attempt went wide.

While Wales looked to compose themselves after conceding the goal and weathering the storm of the eladers, Orla Burn kept the pressure on them for Scotland, shooting from outside the box and clattering the crossbar, inches away from putting Scotland two goals ahead.

Although a goal down, Wales pushed to level the scores before the break, but the Scots' resilience held firm, nullifying any danger and keeping their lead.

The second half began with Scotland on the front foot, eager to add to their tally and kick on with fresh substitutions.

Lucy Jane Hope was one of the changes, nearly putting Scotland further ahead as she broke through the Welsh defence and went one-on-one with the goalkeeper; unfortunately, her shot went wide of the post.

Minutes later, however, Hope would have her goal.

Phoebe O’Donnell stormed up the wing and cut inside the Welsh box. Her low cross to Hope was neatly tapped in to give the Scots a well-deserved second goal.

Wales’  Sophie Batters almost clawed a goal back with a drilled shot that clipped the post, allowing Julia Gorska the split-second to collect the ball and stifle the threat.

A confident Scotland held firm and prevented Wales from scoring for the remainder of the second half.
