John Johnstone

John Ainslie Johnstone born Stevenston 17 November 1902. He joined Heart of Midlothian from local junior team Ardeer Thistle in November 1921 and spent almost his entire professional career at Tynecastle before retiring in 1935 (he also had a spell on loan at Cowdenbeath in 1926). For several seasons he was first choice as centre half and earned his Scotland call-up as well as three Scottish League caps. For his third cap against Wales at Tynecastle he was given the honour of captaining the side
