Biography
John Aird was born in Glencraig (Fife) on 18 February, 1926.
He joined Burnley in 1948 from Perth junior team Jeanfield Swifts and made his name as a tough full back at the highest level of English football. His Scotland debut came just in time to be included in the squad for the 1954 World Cup and he played in both matches at left back. A year later, in search of a new life, he emigrated to New Zealand and continued his football career there with Eastern Union FC (Gisborne).
