Biography
Matthew Armstrong was born in Newton Stewart (Wigtownshire) on 12 November 1911. He died in 2002.
A creative centre forward, Armstrong had a superb scoring record with 137 goals in 191 league games for Aberdeen, whom he joined in 1931 from Port Glasgow Juniors. However, he was unable to replicate his form in Scotland's colours and did not score on his three international appearances. His career was interrupted by the war and he joined Queen of the South for the 1946-7 season.
