Archie Baird

Archibald Baird was born in Rutherglen in June 1919.
Baird joined Aberdeen from Strathclyde Juniors in 1938 but before he reached the first team war had broken out and he joined the services. The story of his adventures in Italy as an escaped Prisoner of War are told in his autobiography 'Family of Four' published in 1989. He returned to Aberdeen before the end of the war and his good form as a creative inside forward earned him his only cap in the match against Belgium.
