Donald McKinlay was born in Newton (Glasgow) on 25 July, 1891. He died on 16 September, 1959.
McKinlay went straight from local junior team Newton Villa to Liverpool in January 1910, and spent the best part of two successful decades at Anfield. Working on the left side in defence or midfield, he pioneered the overlapping attacking move.
