Biography
James Howie was born in Galston (Ayrshire) on 19 March, 1878. He died in January, 1963.
Howie was inside right for the marvellous Newcastle United team of the Edwardian period, rated by many as one of the finest players of his era. He only won three caps, all against England, and the highlight of his career was his double at Hampden in 1906 to win the game 2-1. He began his career in lowlier circumstances, playing for Galston Athletic as a youth then joined Kilmarnock in May 1898, helping t
