Biography
James Dykes was born in Law (Lanarkshire) on 12 October, 1916. A talented centre half whose career was curtailed by the Second World War, Dykes joined Heart of Midlothian in 1935, and put his height to good effect as he broke into the club team and then the Scotland eleven. During the war he remained a Hearts player but guested for several teams including Ayr United, Blackpool, Chelsea, Charlton Athletic and then in Northern Ireland with Glentoran, for whom he played in two Irish Cup Finals
