Biography
John Ewart was born in Oakbank (Midlothian) on 14 February, 1921. He died on 22 June 1943. A goalkeeper who helped to perpetuate the myth of eccentricity required for the position, John Ewart was unorthodox in style and had external interests unusual for a player: he spoke German and French, and was an accomplished musician on the flute, piccolo and violin. His playing career started in the junior game with Bellshill and Larkhall, before he stepped up to Airdrieonians in 1909.
