Frank Burns

Francis Burns was born in Glenboig, Lanarkshire, on 17 October, 1948. A talented and speedy operator on the left side of defence or midfield, Frank Burns joined Manchester United straight from school in 1965. His international prospects were limited due to the prominence of Celtic's Tommy Gemmell but he made one appearance in the final match of the 1970 World Cup qualifying campaign. He left Old Trafford for Southampton in June 1972, but just a season later transferred to Preston North End.
