One of the last amateur players to play for Scotland, Crawford was a speedy right winger (he was joint holder of the Scottish record for 100 yards) who could not easily be caught. He spent his entire playing career with Queen's Park, from 1923 to 1937, and as well as his full international honours he played in the 1936 Olympic Games for Great Britain, and won ten Scotland amateur caps.
