Robert John Little was born in Calgary (Canada) on 8 July, 1930.
John Little came to Scotland as a boy and did not take up football until he reached secondary school, but quickly displayed the talents that would make him an international. He represented Glasgow Schools and joined Queens Park as an amateur while he studied to become a PE teacher, winning three amateur international caps in the process. He turned professional with Rangers in the summer of 1951 and spent over a decade at
