A Celtic legend, McPhail spent his entire professional career at Parkhead, having joined the club from Strathclyde Juniors in 1941. A bustling forward, he played at a time when honours were thin for Celtic, but he did have a Scottish League championship in 1953/54 and a Scottish Cup in 1951 to his credit.
