Michael Gilhooley

Michael Gilhooley was born in Edinburgh on 26 November 1896. A centre half, he signed as a professional for Celtic aged just 16, but did not make the breakthrough and played for Vale of Leven and Clydebank before signing for Hull City in July 1920. He did so well with the club that he won his cap, and was transferred for a record fee to Sunderland in March 1922. Injuries dogged his career and he did not enjoy much more success, but continued to play and joined Bradford City in May 1925.
